NCDMV is planning a new driver license office in Fuquay-Varina, scheduled to open in early 2027.
The location will reuse a former Walgreens at 816 N. Main St. and will include:
🏢 14 service stations
🚘 Driver license services
🔖 License plate agency
📍 One location serving southern Wake County and northern Harnett County
The bigger CRE takeaway is the reason behind the expansion:
📈 Fuquay-Varina has more than doubled its population since 2010.
As communities grow, public infrastructure and services have to catch up with the population—and that can have a direct impact on commercial real estate.
For building owners, adaptive reuse can create opportunities for properties that may no longer work for their original use. A former retail building becoming a government service facility is a good example.
For business owners, continued population growth means a larger potential customer base—but also changing traffic patterns, competition and demand for commercial space.
And for investors, it’s another reminder that population growth doesn’t just create demand for housing.
It creates demand for everything around it. 🏘️➡️🏪➡️🏥➡️🍽️➡️🚗
Southern Wake County continues to be an area worth watching.
