A proposed 383-acre mixed-use community in northern Chatham County remains under scrutiny as residents and county officials weigh the impacts of growth.
Fearrington Preserve would add approximately 630 housing units, including affordable housing, near Briar Chapel.
Key concerns raised during recent public hearings include:
- Traffic and road capacity
- School overcrowding
- Environmental impacts along Pokeberry Creek
- Potential waivers to key Compact Community Ordinance requirements
The project’s supporters point to the need for additional housing, while opponents question whether infrastructure and community benefits will keep pace with the proposed growth.
The public hearing has been continued until July.
